Shake Fear | Break Walls at the Gdansk Shakespeare Festival

Authoritarianism, borders, censorship, domestic violence, inequalities.

The walls which divide us are everywhere but not all of them are visible. Shakespeare wrote about this so why are these topics still current? Have we learned nothing after all these years? Or did we simply not want to listen?

If we talk about it now, will you listen? Will you shake these walls?

Social theatre is a method supporting the building of bonds in local communities. Philip Parr has undertaken an attempt to combine people from different cultures, with various attitudes, different experiences, of all ages, allowing each person to discover unique talents.

Participants in this international project, prepared within the “Shaking the Walls” programme, include Gdańsk citizens and beyond as well as creators and performers from Iceland, the Czech Republic, Ireland and Great Britain. The Gdańsk community has, from the start, taken an active part in the creative process of the show, which was created on the basis of their experience and identity.
